School Based Dental Clinics

The following School Based Dental Clinics will be open for Preventative Services like X-rays, Screenings, Hygiene Treatment, Sealants and Fluoride:

What We Do in the Health Room 

• Provide care and first aid for injuries and illnesses that occur during the school day.
• Administer medication to students with written authorization from a healthcare provider and parent/guardian.
• Conduct health screenings such as vision and hearing as required by state regulations.
• Communicate with families about student health concerns and coordinate care plans for students with chronic conditions (example: asthma, diabetes, allergies).
• Support students with individualized health needs to ensure safe participation in school activities.
• Coordinate and collect immunization records and health care information. 
• Communicate with the Administration regarding injuries related to student-to-student conflict. 

A Parent May be Called If 

• Your child has an injury or condition that may require them to be picked up for further care.
• Your child has a fever over 100.4 degrees F.
• Your child shows signs of an illness that is interfering with their ability to participate in class, or may be considered contagious (example: vomiting, diarrhea, persistent severe cough).
• There are concerns or follow up is needed regarding medications or ongoing health issues.

Students are Typically Sent to the Health Room For

The 8 B’s, which guides when to send students to the Health Room: 

• Bleeding – more than a band-aid
• Blood Sugar – low or high
• Bump/Bruise on the head
• Bee sting or allergic reaction
• Break-out (rash, visible bumps, irritation)
• Breathing difficulty
• Barfing or diarrhea
• Broken Bone
• Fever/temperature check

When to Keep Students Home – How Sick is Too Sick? 

Montbello Middle School follows DPS and Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment guidelines for when to keep students home from school. Please click the following link for detailed information on when to keep your student home.

• Well child/well adolescent checks, which meet the requirements of school, sports, camp and employment physicals
• Prescriptions and medications and routine lab tests
• Immunizations
• Care for chronic conditions such as asthma and depression
• Care for acute injury and illness
• Reproductive health services including pregnancy testing and birth control evaluation, dispensing and management
• Testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections
• Individual, group and family mental health counseling
• Dental screenings, routine cleanings, sealants, fluoride varnish applications and dental x-rays (at select locations)
• Parent and child health education
